Hello, today's story is about possession of God, and how it could have affected the world.
The story goes as, once when godess Parvati was feeling alone after her daughter Ashoksundari, left for austerity. On this occasion, Devrishi (God's saint) Narad visited her and presented an idea, so that she could reunite her family by observing a ritual started by wife of the king of gods, Indra. Initially, Godess parvati didn't agree with him, as it was not good idea to tether lord shiva just to her household, depriving world from His benevolence. When he insisted, she finally agreed, and asked him to explain the process in detail. Narad described it enthusiastically as, sacred Kalpvriksh( wish granting heavenly tree) was to be worshipped followed by sacrificing the dearest to brahmin, and this lead to fulfillment of all wishes.
The godess started preparing for the day with zeal, she gave responsibility for bringing brahman to Narad, and sankadik rishi ( mind born 4 sons of Lord Brahma, the cosmic creator, they were cursed to be child all their lives by Prajapati Daksha) were chosen. Amidst all the arrangements, She was afraid within to ask lord Shiva regarding the subject. Somehow, He got to know, and warned Her towards consequences, in keen eagerness, She couldn't think beyond.
On the day, the bal rishis, Sanaka, Sanandana, Sanatana and Sanadkumara arrived, and all the rituals were done appropriately, at last the final act of sacrificing the dearest, she happily asked Lord Shiva to stand along the Kalpvriksh and gave them to the Kumara rishis. They were totally bless by having Lord Shiva as offering, what else anyone could ask for. They were to leave gratefully, but then Parvati stopped from taking the Lord with them, as it was designated to return the sacrifice as was done in case of Indrani, but they denied, and already forewarned not to get trapped in any kind of bait. Even after continuous pleading by Godess parvati and ganas of Shiva, they didn't stop.
On the way to their hermitage, they stopped to have some water and food. They saw a cottage in the middle of a forest, an old woman with her sons lived there. The Kumaras requested her for little something and explained her about their voyage. On hearing about Lord Shiva, she exclaimed, how could this be possible, Shiva could not be with them, if so, they must prove it first. They were agitated by her comment and condition and ready to go for any extent to prove. She instructed them, if the person with them accept their offering, it would be proofed. They offer the Lord flower offerings, but it turned into soil, they all tried one by one, but failed and disappointed. The womam then, revealed herself, She was Godess parvati, explained them how She mistakenly Personalised Shiva, thus ending His glory as the God. Lord could not belong to one person, could not be given or taken. He was beyond and above those worldly act, so they must return to their hermitage and let Shiva go. They realised the truth and accepted their fault, pleased by their modesty, Parvati granted them with boon to have Shiva as thier spiritual teacher and mentor. They were overwhelmed and left.
