Gajendra moksha

Hello, so far I have told to stories about human devotees and their devotion but today's about animal's.

There was an elephant, head of his herd so called Gajendra, was a great devotee to Lord Vishnu and everyday he used to go to river and pick lotus flower for His offering. One day he went to the riverside as usual mellowingly and ran over a crocodile, Huhu accidentally, but before he could realize and step back, Huhu caught his leg between his mighty jaws. Gajendra screamed in agony for help, all his family and herd arrived but in vain. The fight continued for several years and finally when the elephant was exhausted and the crocodile was about to drag him to the river, he trumpeted and called lord Shri Hari, offering lotus in his trunk. Lord Vishnu rushed to the scene at once and rescued him by slaying the crocodile and granted Moksha to Gajendra but before that Shri Hari told him his previous life legend and purpose of the present life. Gajendra was a celebrated king Indradyumna, the great devotee of Lord Vishnu and set up Jagannathji temple in Puri. Once sage Agastya visited him, while he was engrossed in deep meditation and could not sense his arrival. The sage took this as deep insult and cursed him to be an elephant and gain liberation when surrendered to the Lord. The crocodile on the other hand was the king of gandharwa and got to be Huhu as hexed by sage Devala for disturbing his austerity.

Huhu symbolizes sin and the river as illusive world, once sins are eliminated, one attains final liberation from the cycle of life and death.
