Origin of Ekadashi

Long ago, in Satyug, there lived a demon named Mur. He was extremely fierce and incredibly powerful, drove the Gods out of heaven and compelled them to wonder on the Earth.
They were overwrought and frightened and sought aid with Lord Vishnu. They folded their hands, sang his praises, great Lord, you are  the most powerful of all, the killer of mighty demon Madhu, o Lotus eyed generous Lord have mercy on us, save us from a miscreant demon. The compassionate Lord was pleased with their modesty, asked about the cacodemon, his appearance and place. Indra described that, once Lord Brahma gave birth to a afreet named Taljangh, he was really ferocious, brutal and terrifying, however his son, Mur belittled him as he was even more dreadful with eerie calmness on his face, had usurped a beautiful city named Chandrawati, and lived there. O generous Lord, you inflicted suffering on evils, only you can save us and wreak him down. Enraged Lord headed to the Chndrawati, and challenged him for combat.
The fiend charged along with his army. Vishnu killed them with arrows, they were feverish in fear, eventually after kiiling the whole army, he summoned the danav for single combat. The fight continued for thousands of years yet no result, because his mystic power were outweighing that of the Lord's, apparently exhausted, He went to Badrikashram and slept into a cave named Sinhawati, which was 144 km long with single entrance. Intended to kill Him, Mur chased and entered the cave, he was extremely glad to see him asleep. As he was determined to kill the slayer of demons, Lord Narayana, took off his weapon, soon enough an exquisite woman with divine grace and mesmerizing beauty appeared from the senses of Lord Shree Hari. She was equipped with all types of artilleries.

Mur was totally intrigued by her alluring beauty and proposed her to marry him, on which she answered that, she vowed to marry a man who would defeat her in duel. He agreed and started fighting her, ultimately got killed by the maiden and burnt to ash.
When the Lord woke up he was extremely delighted, all the Gods paid their gratitude to the Godess, Lord vishnu named her Ekadashi, 11th day of any paksha, counted from next day of new moon and full moon and granted her boon that anyone who observed fast on the day would be purified of all sins.
That's it with the story of origin of pious Ekadashi. 🙏
