Hello, today's story is about a king who used to be quite voluptuous but turned into saint when he realized the truth of his life after an eye opener event.
There was a king named Bharthari, son of Gandharvsena, ruled from Ujjain. He was really fond of essence and beauty of life, mostly indulged in poetry and music. His third wife Pigalah was one of the most gorgeous woman, he loved her blindly. Once, his brother Vikramaditya tried to forewarn him of conspiracies behind her alluring beauty but he was declared as traitor and exiled.
Meanwhile, a friar visited him and offered him an enchanted mango fruit, when consumed bestow the cosumer with everlasting youth and immortality. The king thought, if his beloved queen Pinglah be youthful for ever, he would enjoy his life with her, as all his merriments were associated with her only and thus gave the pious fruit to her, she in turn handed it to army chief. After many slips off the fruit eventually circulated back to the king. He confronted the queen and crestfallen by showcasing of her persona.
He sent words for his brother, asking for forgiveness and handed him over his realm and left for renunciation. He became a great ascetic and written many books, nitishatak, vairagyashatak for example.
An introductory quote from his book expressed his disappointment,
O pinglah, for whom I continuously envisage, she is indifferent to me. The one she fancies, desires other woman, who in turn adores me. Condemn Pinglah, condemn the Cupid and condemn me as well.
That's it with this story. Thank you 🙏
