Hello, madhushravani is observed from 5th day after full moon in the month of saavan according to hindu calendar. The first day of the occasion is called Maina panchami and today's story features its beginning.
Once, in a village an old woman went for bath to the riverside, there she found five little living creatures were moving on a leaf. After taking bath, the creatures addressed her and asked to convey message to villagers. They were all suppose to bring five basket filled clay, clean their houses and outside, have bath in river, make five raised structures from the clay and stick durva and rice flour and vermillion. Prepare rice pudding and curd rice in new utensils and pray five snake sisters, Bishara. Necessarily consume neem leaves and lemon juice. Also forewarned her of consequences for not following the instructions. The woman went to the village and told everyone about the incident. Many people did accordingly but some of them considered it invaluable and ignored. Next morning what happened caused havoc around the village, one who observed the ritual were alright however who didn't, were all found dead. Everyone gathered to the door of the old woman and asked for the way out. She couldn't understand what to say, and rushed to the riverside to the creatures, sought solution. They told her that they already warned her about consequences however there was still a possible solution, observers of ritual could help the affected one by providing them the leftover of rice pudding and curd rice of previous day. Once they became healthy again they still have chance to follow the ritual next fifth day after new moon, that was called Naag panchami. They too introduced themselves as five snake sisters Bishara, daughters of Lord Shiva and Goddess Gauri.
The old woman went to the village and told them what was told to her. This time they obeyed and did the same. Everyone was healthy and hearty and promised to observed the ritual on the day of Naag panchami. Goddess Bishara blessed them all
